MEMA Basic Public Information Officer Course

This two-day course is intended for participants who deal with the media as part of their job (active Public Information Officers, Fire Chiefs, Police Chiefs, Emergency Management Directors or their deputies) . Its emphasis is on the basic skills and knowledge needed for emergency public information activities. Topics include the role of the PIO in emergency management (both day-to-day and during incidents or events), news release writing, conducting interviews with the media, and preparing officials to conduct interviews with the media.
